OUR MOVEMENT

Empowering Orange County

Our website, a call to action created in summer 2020, is meant to facilitate actions that help the homeless people who live on the streets of our generally affluent area and serve as a directory to shelters that are accepting volunteers and donations. However, the most important purpose of our site is to educate the surrounding community on how they can, and why they should, rise up to combat this issue. When using our website, you are helping us in making a difference for the homeless communities in the County of Orange.

STORIES

Below are stories from staff members at local homelessness resource programs, as well as previously homeless people, whom we have gotten in contact with and given our site the permission to publish this content. We take pride in this compilation of real stories which display vulnerability, strength, and hope. These collaborators all have very unique stories regarding their experiences with homelessness.

ABOUT THE CREATORS

Real Stories for Real Help

Destigmatize OC was created by three Girl Scouts in Orange County, California who saw the need for better homeless solutions. As a result, this website was created to be the medium between people and their local homeless shelters; it can be a daunting task to find a shelter. Additionally, the homelessness issue in our area is getting progressively worse, and homeless people aren't getting the tools they need to be able to lift themselves out of poverty. Our concept to help through destigmatization is a call to action for all people, educating OC citizens who do not know how to help as well as encouraging homeless people to take the next necessary steps and not give up.
